The Young People in the Media (YPM) recently held its first Congress since its start in early 2006, which saw the election of Momodou Secka a student at the Gambia Methodist Academy as president. This is according to a media dispatch from YPM. The Congress presided over by Mr. Ibrahim Cessay, National Coordinator of Children for Children Organization brought together its members from various schools within the greater Banjul area and Western Region.
Momodou Secka replaced the incumbent president Abdou Jatta, who has been at the helm of affairs of the organization for two consecutive terms as president.
Abdou Jatta the outgoing president presented a report on the activities implemented by his executive during 2006 to 2010. He called on the incoming executive to be very determined, strive forward and excel in their dealings. Jatta advised the newly elected executive that leadership is a daunting challenge that comes along with lots of responsibilities and expectations. He noted that the bedrock of any organization is through team work, sincerity, honesty, loyal and perseverance.
Jatta concluded by thanking his executive for given him all the support needed during his presidency. He commended the government of the Gambia, UNICEF, parents, the media and all their development partners for what he described as “their un-relentless and unceasing support they gave to the organization over the years.
For her part, Mrs. Fatou Camara, Chairperson Board of Directors of Young People in the Media, expressed gratitude to the out going executive for their dynamism and dedication in maintaining the standards of the organization at all time in their functions. She noted that the past executive has made history and their names will remain in the organization. “They shall be remembered well by their generation and generations yet unborn since most of them have ably represented young people of this country at high level international conferences.
Speaking on behalf of the new executive, President elected Momdou Secka, noted that being a Leader does not mean that one has authority over everyone or anything that has to do with the people you are leading. “One should not work toward selfish interest, but instead to work in their best interest of all and should thus make sure that the goals of the organization are achieved.
Secka noted that he and the newly elected executive are ready to work to see to it that what the organization stands for is not lost. Secka added they will continue on the work of the previous executive to make remarkable changes in the livesof their fellow young people in the Gambia and the world at large.
He finally thanked the out going executive for what he termed “Their great work and commitment towards a noble cause and in making a great impact on the lives of their peers.
The newly elected executive comprises the following:
Momdou Secka of Gambia Methodist Academy as President, Haddijatou Fofana of Gambia Methodist Academy as Vice President, Modou C Njang as Secretary General, Alieu A Bah as Assistant SG, Fallou Ngum of Ndow’s Comprehensive Senior Secondary School as Social Secretary, Kaddijotou Jallow of Bakoteh Senior Secondary School as Assistant Social Secretary, Kaddy Jabbie as Information Secretary, Sheikh Jeng of Ndow’s Comprehensive Senior Secondary School and Mohammed Sanyang as Treasurer. The executive will be in office for two years.
The out going executive will formed the coordinating body of the organization that will be determined by the boards of Directors of the organization, the release concluded.
